The Opening Reception

Hello again,

The opening reception has come and gone.  It was a blast, meeting so many amazing artists.  I had the chance to talk about my work and to listen to others tell stories about plastic bags.  One woman shared that her grandmother used to make rugs out of plastic bread bags.  Another woman suggested that I take in a current exhibit in New York City by Joshua Blackwell, an artist who creates with plastic bags.  All in all, a super-cool, super-fun night!

Cheers,

Marsha

Not to give anything away, BUT...

Hello!

The work I submitted to a local art gallery recently was accepted for a national juried exhibition.  Needless to say, I am super excited!

Not to give anything away, but my pieces have something to do with:

This -
 And this -
And this.

Curious?  You'll just have to wait until I post pictures of my actual pieces.

Here are some details about the show:

Guilford Art Center is pleased to announce its newest gallery exhibition entitled “Bowls: A National Juried Exhibition” from June 17 – July 31 in the gallery at Guilford Art Center. The opening reception will be held Friday, June 17 from 5-7 pm.

This exhibition explores the continuing vitality of this simplest, most ancient, and most elemental of forms, as exemplified in the work of contemporary artists. It includes works by 25 artists from across the country working in a variety of media, including ceramic, stone, fiber and mixed media. Pieces by David Frank, GAC instructor and Rod Recor, GAC stone carver, are featured.

“This sounds like such a simple show, but it is amazing to see how artists are inspired by this most basic object” says Guilford Art Center Executive Director Maureen Belden. “Everybody needs a bowl; the question is, how creative can a bowl be?”

Juror for the exhibition is Julia Galloway, a nationally-recognized utilitarian potter and professor who is currently the Director of the School of Art and Professor at the University of Montana, Missoula.

Very cool, right?!

Stay tuned!

"Bowled" over with joy ~

More Christmas Ornaments

Hello again,

I've been working on more of those fun little Christmas ornaments.  I like to make them because I can crochet a few rounds at a time while I'm waiting to pick kids up, drop kids off, or wait for appointments.  I've memorized the pattern, of course, and what keeps me motivated is the fact that each one turns out differently, depending on how I put the colors together.

Happy Crocheting to all, and to all a good night!

Upcycled Materials Wreath

Hello!

June already.  Hard to believe!

I've been having a bit of fun making wreaths.  Here is what I use to make them:

Coat hanger
Cotton from old curtains

Reclaimed cashmere and angora sweaters
Denim from pre-loved jeans
Fused plastic from grocery bags

The result is beautiful, don't you think?

Happy Crafting,

Marsha
