My two bird nests seem right at home here!  It is a pleasure to show them at this fine art center in the Adirondack Mountain of New York State.

Natural Homes: Nests, Burrows, Caves & Trees

Hello Blog Readers!

This past summer, I got involved in recreating things that exist in the natural world, things like cobwebs, leaves, stones, and lichen.  I made a few bird nests and a groundhog burrow, too.  Each work was made with man-made materials, sometimes with plastic.

I submitted a few things to View Arts Center in Old Forge, New York, and I'm thrilled that two of my bird nests were accepted for exhibition.  The show, titled Natural Homes:  Nests, Burrows, Caves & Trees, runs through March 10, 2019.

Here are some detail views of my two bird nests:

I created these nests with a combination of crochet and weaving techniques.  I really love working in a free form style - they were an absolute joy to make.

I had a chance to see the exhibition and I'll post photos of that visit soon.

Thank you for taking a look!

Warmly,

Marsha

Wowza Workshop!

Hello!

What an amazingly awesome bunch of workshop participants this past Monday night!!  Super fun folks, and such a great opportunity to talk about my craft and my art.  Thanks to everyone for coming out on a cold January evening,  and a special thanks to Mitchell Library branch manager Sharon Lovett-Graff for inviting me!

Several people asked if I could share the crochet pattern for the plastic yarn tote (with small flower) that I showed at the workshop.  Here is a photo:

The pattern was written by Claire Baker from Montclair Made.  Here is the link where you can find her complete instructions for the tote, along with photos and other neat tips (click on Plarn Tote for the Crochet-Inclined below):

It's a really great pattern, and those of you who are a bit advanced with your crochet skills will enjoy making one.  If you make one, please leave me a comment, and maybe even share a photo!  I'm feeling so inspired that I may make another one, this time with yellow plastic bags.  I'll be sure to share here if I do!

Thanks again for your enthusiasm at the workshop.  I hope you learned a bit about the possibilities of the plastic bag and that you will continue to upcycle, craft, and create!

Warmly,

Marsha

Creative Reuse Workshop

I'm excited to be hosting my very first workshop!  I was asked by a local library to come and share my art and process, and to demonstrate and teach about crocheting with plastic grocery bags.

Photos of the event coming soon so be sure to check back!

Moving Forward into the New Year

Hello!

I'm excited about several things that I'll be working on in the new year, including some curatorial opportunities and a few artist talks and workshops.  I've also had work accepted into several juried shows, and I'll be sharing about those as well.

Last month, I was asked to collaborate on a panel to select artists for upcoming exhibitions at a local gallery.  It was so invigorating and inspiring to view the work of others during this evaluative process.  You can read more about selected artists, participating panelists, and the selection process here:

2019 Exhibitions at Ives Gallery

And to ring in the new year, here is a photo of a maple leaf I recently embellished.  I've been very inspired lately by ornamentation, embellishment, and decoration, and you may see a lot of these elements in my work this year.

Thanks for reading - happiness and good health to you in the new year!

Ringing in the New Year - Welcome 2019!

2019 is here!

2018 was a great year.  I have so much to be thankful for - family, friends, good health, and a creative life where I feel inspired to make this world of ours a little bit better, just by making things.

There is so much to look forward to in the new year.  I can't wait to get started!

Thanks for taking the time to read my blog.
